LEADING THE WAY – City start-up rolls out free Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi may be on the top of the agenda of Prime Minister Narendra-Modi led NDA government, which plans to offer the service at 2,500 cities and towns across the country , but Jaipur-based start-up HTTP Cart Pvt Ltd promoted by two LNMIIT students Karmesh and Praveen has actually rolled out the service at Gaurav Tower and GT Central area on Thursday.

“Free Wi-Fi 24×7 and 365 days a year is now a reality and most probably , this is the first such initiative in India. The facility allows everybody to login, get a one-time password and enjoy free Wi-Fi for ever,“ said Mahavir Sharma, chairman of the company .

In the 2015-16 state budget, chief minister Vasundhara Raje announced to offer free Wi-Fi at Amber Fort, Sindhi Camp and the Railway Station and other places. But going by the plans of the Center and some states like Delhi and Rajasthan, the service is likely to be free only for a limited time period and after that the consumers will have to pay .

But Sharma said HTTP has no such limitations and it doesn’t depend on any government support either. “The company has a revenue generation model. Users need to view an advertisement for one minute which will allow them to access free Wi-Fi for twenty minutes. The company has already tied up with 4-5 companies for advertisements, which will be one of the main sources for revenue generation,“ added Sharma.
